The Code of Ethics for Professional Social Workers and other Social Service Practitioners, recognises that social work is a professional activity. Social workers have obligations to service users, to their employers, to one another, to colleagues in other disciplines and to society. The Code of Ethics (COE) is intended to serve as a guide to enable social workers to conduct their practice in accordance with the primary values and ethical standards of the profession. The Jamaica Association of Social Workers (JASW) is the professional association for social workers in Jamaica. JASW has a duty to ensure, as far as possible, that its members discharge their ethical obligations and are afforded the professional rights which are necessary for the safeguarding and promotion of the rights of service users.

The primary objective of the JASW Code of Ethics is to express the values and principles which are integral to social work, and to give guidance on ethical practice. While the Code is responsive to the state of the development of social work in Jamaica, it reflects the globally accepted principles of the profession.
